Community

Students of Gdynia Maritime University may have many opportunities for involvement in social and political activities, and pursue their scientific, cultural, sporting, and creative passions within student organisations and associations and Student Special Interest Groups on a variety of topics.

The following are some of the Special Interest Groups currently active at the University:

Student Parliament

Students' interests are represented by the Student Parliament, both within the structure of the University and externally.  Parliament members sit within the Senate, and on the Faculty Boards and University commissions. The Parliament also represents GMU students on the Polish forum in the Student Parliament of Poland and on the Technical Universities’ Forum. The main aim of the Parliament is to ensure that every student has the necessary conditions to study and develop their passions. The seat of the Parliament is located in the main building of the University, on Morska Street. Student are encouraged to contact the Parliament should they need any assistance.

 Gdynia Maritime University Academic Choir

Thanks to the initiative of students of our University, the Gdynia Maritime University Academic Choir was founded in 2001. Its members include students, staff, and friends of the University. The choir has performed successfully during many municipal academic occasions and has given concerts in Poland and abroad, performing several times with the world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli in 2022. The group has also appeared on television and recorded an album. Membership of the choir provides not only  an opportunity to develop musical skills and share a passion for singing with others, but is also a way to socialise with other students and staff at the University. Rehearsals are held twice a week. Those interested are welcome to come along and meet the choir’s members and conductor Dr Karol Hilla and watch see the group work on the interpretation of a musical piece. If you're thinking of joining the choir it's also a chance to try out your vocal skills under the supervision of a professional.

Social

Students may enjoy the maritime atmosphere of the student club "Bukszpryt", well-known for its numerous cultural events, concerts and discos, both cyclical and occasional.

In February 2011, the club was ranked third out of the best student clubs in the country in the student magazine "Dlaczego" [Why].

In 2021/22 the club underwent renovation and is once again open, hosting a regular calendar of events.

Catering

GMU provides catering facilities in the form of a canteen located in the main University building. Frequented by students, doctoral candidates, faculty members, non-academic staff and more, the canteen offers a wide variety of hot meals and sandwiches at affordable prices. The canteen is open Monday – Friday from 08:00 – 16:00 and 10:00 – 15:00 on Saturdays.
